Something pulls me out of the fever dreams. The ground shakes and I’m bounced up and down. That must be what it was.

A screech so loud it makes my ears pop cuts through the air. My head explodes with pain as I struggle to rise and find its source. The pain is so much my vision blurs. My arms shake, weak and unwilling to hold me, so I fall flat.

Rock. Cool, soothing rock scrapes my face and I don’t have the energy to care about the scrapes, only enough to enjoy the coolness. The ground rumbles, making my head bounce up and down, which does nothing to ease the pain.

Damn it, give me a break, will you?

Sighing, I gather my will and force myself to rise again… though this time I’m more successful. My eyes are blurry still so I blink rapidly trying to clear them. Shapes move not far away. Big shapes, huge shapes, too big for Lothor even.

The screech happens again and somehow its even louder.

“Ah!” I cry, eyes watering, head splitting. I grab it, trying to keep it from dividing in two.

When it passes I wipe away the tears and now, at last, I can see. But I don’t believe what I’m seeing. Lothor is fighting a zemlja. Alone.

He’s dangling off the side of the massive creature, hanging on by what looks like the shaft of his lochaber. He’s struggling, or not, I don’t know.

My heart is in my throat, and when he the shaft breaks and he falls towards the ground I avert my eyes. I can’t see this. I can’t lose him. I don’t want to see.

Lothor grunts, somehow still alive. Of course he is, he has to be…

Barely daring to breathe I look over and see him standing before the creature. The thing is ten or twenty times the size of him. It’s huge, one of the biggest I’ve ever seen. He stands before it holding a sharp stick, the broken shaft of his weapon.

The zemlja rises into the air, gaping maw of a mouth opening wide. It strikes like a snake, slamming down so fast it blurs. Something that big shouldn’t be able to move that fast. It’s not fair. It takes me an instant to register what is happening.

“LOTHOR!” I scream the instant it hits me.

He disappears into its open mouth, gone…

The zemlja shudders, shakes, then falls over to its side, causing another quaking of the earth. Struggling to my feet I stumble forward, unable to stand straight, the stupid soft sand grabbing my legs, pulling me down making it even harder.

The zemlja shifts and my blood turns cold. It can’t still be alive. It twitches and then Lothor climbs out of its jaws covered in grotesqueness. He drops to his knees, breathing heavily. I run forward, but I trip over my own feet. I cry out as I fall flat on my face into the sand and get a mouthful of it.

An instant later I’m swept up into his arms. I don’t care he’s gross.
